Eagle Point Christian Academy was damaged during Hurricane Katrina.

A significant number of boys were transferred to Darrington Academy following the storm.

History:

Charges of child abuse against the Fountain family date back many years.

1988: Herman Fountain, Sr. was running the original facility, then called Bethel Children's Home, when state welfare officials conducted a surprise raid, and removed 72 children.

1990: A judge ordered the closure of Bethel Children's Home.

1994: Herman Fountain, Sr. reopened the facility as Bethel Boys Academy.

2003: Herman Fountain, Sr. was ordered to relinquish control of the facility and the facility was ordered to stop using a cattle prod to punish children.

Fountain's son John took over control of the facility.

2004: Bethel Boys Academy began it's affiliation with WWASPS.

November 2004: A civil lawsuit alleging abuse and torture at the facility was filed by parents of several former "students."

Bethel Boys Academy changed its name to Eagle Point Christian Academy.

2005: In April, boys rioted at the facility.

Noteworthy:

John Fountain's brother Herman Jr., was running Bethel Girls Academy when it closed following allegations of abuse.

Bethel Girls Academy was also part of the WWASPS network.
